The Investment and Finance Society (IFS) is the leading careers society at the University of York. We have a membership base of over 1300 students from multiple disciplines which has grown at an annual rate of 30% over the last 3 years. Our aim is to deliver continuous growth and success within the finance community at York.

Career, Investment and Speaker lecturer series provide our members with comprehensive insights into all areas of the financial services industry. Structured mentorship, CV/Cover Letter and interview clinics and skills sessions ensure our members stand out from the crowd.

Sponsors include Morgan Stanley, Towers Watson, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and EY who provide our members with insights into their firms through on-campus company presentations. A range of networking events where our members can meet with and learn from alumni with successful careers in the City.

Be Challenged

Trading Competitions and Microsoft IT Academy Computer Workshops (VBA and Excel) provide our members with a variety of skills to help them succeed in the financial services industry.

Women in Finance

The York Women in Finance Group aims to share opportunities, advice and mentoring for Women. In particular, there are many internships and training schemes available to women only and IFS are targeting women to share these to and make them aware. Currently there are 50+ members and will be expected to grow to 250 by April. Furthermore, we work our hardest to provide our members with the opportunity to connect with employers and find out more about the range of roles available to students.

We recognise the many similarities between finance and corporate law. For example, knowledge of capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and general financial commercial awareness is invaluable to a student wishing to pursue corporate law. Each year we help many students to improve their financial knowledge in preparation for becoming a corporate lawyer. Our cLaw group aims to equip students who do not study law with the skills to succeed in the industry.
